	Yellow Lab (mix) Adult (senior) Male Large	AUSABLE VALLEY ANIMAL SHELTER SPOTLIGHT: LYLE Lyle is a senior dog who should be arrested for stealing hearts from everyone at the shelter. He's gentle and loving, and needs a family who is the same. Lyle naps a lot, but is still active. He gets along well with other dogs and cats, and is affectionate and mellow. 	Wire-hair Pointing Griffon Adult female Large	Callie is probably about 3-4 years old, very smart , happy, and loves to play fetch, dropping the ball after retrieving. She knows to sit, shake and speak. This wonderful dog walks like a pro on a leash and is most likely housebroken. She would prefer not to share her home with other pets so should be the only fur child in her new family. UPDATE: Callie celebrated her 4th birthday on 11/9/07. She has been cared for at the shelter since 11/5/2005. This really fantastic dog is in need of a loving home. Callie is a true gem and will make some very lucky person a fine pet. 	Black Lab Mix Adult Male Medium	This is a fun guy. Fred is probably Lab mixed with Bassett Hound. He is affectionate and friendly. He is about 5 years old and does need a bit of work on his manners but has a GREAT disposition. He has had a few very small seizures since he came to the shelter last summer so we have him on a mild anti-seizure medication he may have to stay on this for the rest of his life but that will have to be determined by a veterinarian in the future. 	Gone home!	"Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for facilitating our meeting and love at first sight. We are very happy and appreciate each other more and more each day. Thank you for taking such good care of me before I found my new home. I love it here! My older sister (yellow lab) has adjusted to me well. My family is amazed at what a good boy I am. I even spent Easter in Holland, MI and was on my BEST behavior. Everybody loves me. I have a huge yard in which to run (55 acres) and my family keeps me close and safe. I never lose sight of them when we are outside. I have new toys and a 2008 license. We will visit you and keep in touch. 	Hound Male Adult Large	This charming older gent has won the hearts of shelter staff and volunteers. He has a very easy going manner and a sweet smile. 	This dog has found a home!	"My husband and I recently adopted Forest from your animal shelter. Forest is an amazing burst of energy for us! He and our other dog get along great and they are playing all the time. We have a backyard that he loves to play in. We are training Forest to stay by us without the use of a leash. Well, there wasn't much training necessary. We took him to the school track once the snow had melted and noticed that after walking 6 miles around the track, he never left my side. We tried this 2 more times before taking him to my grandparents place, who own 80 acres with a pond, to see if he would stay with us with out a fence. He not only stayed with us, he listened better than our other dog. We also realized that he loves water, which my husband is really excited about because we swim there a lot in the summer. We just wanted to say thank you for the great dog and how happy we are with him. Also, you guys have a great shelter and do great things for the animals. 	This dog has found a home!	"(Hannah) is starting to feel comfortable here, and I'm sure it won't take much longer before she realizes this is her home for good. When we call her name her tail starts waging, she loves to be petted and touched, eats like a horse (but about as messy as Beast in Beauty and the Beast) and absolutely loves to be outside. We have a few low spots in our yard and when we had so much rain a few weeks back, puddles formed. She would literally do a swan dive into the biggest puddle! Apparently she doesn't know that Shepards aren't supposed to like water that way. It was funny to watch! One of her favorite toys is a rubber whiffle ball. She likes to play throw and fetch but loves to play keep away or tug-of-war with it. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to give Hannah a home and family to grow old with!" "Just a note to let you know that Pascha (Sweet Sue) has stolen my heart and is a wonderful, intelligent, young lady who gets along great with everyone on my farm including the chickens. We start obedience class tonight and I believe she will be the star pupil. She is doing good with sit, and feet off. She walks very nice on leash and plays in the back yard (inside the fence while supervised) off leash with her sisters Annie and Savannah. She made me cry on Saturday afternoon when she started playing with Annie in the yard. They were both jumping up in the air, putting their heads down with butts up in the air, chasing each other around the yard while barking/baying the entire time, I could actually see smiles on both their faces. 	Gone Home!	"We first saw Buddy (aka Squeezle) on the Ausable Valley Shelter website and thought he was really cute-looking. When we met in person, he seemed to take to us although he seemed to "take" to everyone. He's a high energy fella and still thinks our two black cats are squirrels to chase but slowly is integrating himself into our family. He loves to take walks on our wooded trails behind our house and is even learning some tricks. We borrowed tapes and books from the library which are a big help in Buddy's training. He's a smart dog and really affectionate. He's loves sitting on our laps and loves even more sitting in front of the gas fireplace when it's cold. Darby likes other dogs but does better with the boys than the girls. Her previous owner told us that she is housebroken and okay with cats. This girl needs some work on her manners so may not be good for a home with children. She is playful and loves toys. 	Lab/Pit Bull (mix) Females Young Tiny (for now!)	ONLY ONE LEFT! These Lab/Pit Bull puppies turned 8 weeks old on June 2nd. They are all ready for new homes and loving families. Each of these babies has been wormed and given it's first puppy shots. We are looking for adopters who have the time and desire to train a puppy. Remember, they don't come into this world knowing what is expected of them. The training and socialization that a puppy gets in its first few months will stay with it for the rest of its life. 	Pit Bull Terrier (mix) Male Adult medium	Gater is a 1 year old Pit Bull mix. He is handsome and very affectionate. This little guy was abandoned at the shelter gates so we have no idea where he came from or why but we do know that he has a great temperament and is a joy to have around. 	Bluetick Coonhound Male Adult medium	Jonah is a 2ish year old Bluetick Hound. He is rather small for a Bluetick but has the typical Bluetick personality. He is playful and likes the company of other dogs. Jonah needs some work on his leash training and housebreaking but would be well worth the time required.
